Just where does the time go?  Friday, already? Really?

On Monday we returned from our quick weekend trip to Pennsylvania.  Visited with Sis, Brother-in-law, nephews, nephew’s girlfriend and a long-lost cousin!  Had not seen Charlie in close to 36 years!

Eating was top of the list for the weekend, started on Saturday evening with a delicious meal in Downtown Lancaster at Annie Bailey’s, an Irish Pub with an amazing menu. They cover the expected traditional Irish fare with great standards, but the rest of the menu is a cacophony of pub grub and very hearty, well prepared comforting food.  There’s the ever-expanding small plates menu, many more fantastic choices than listed on their website. Here’s a quick rundown of what we enjoyed:

Irish Potato Nachos, Lobster Mac & Cheese, Philly Cheese Steak Eggroll; Beef Tenderloin Tips w/mushrooms; Seafood Risotto w/Blackened Grouper; Pork Chops in Arrabbiata Sauce; Grilled Watermelon Salad w/crusted Goat Cheese Medallion; Meatloaf with Chipotle/Blackberry Glaze.  Not a bad dish in the bunch, sadly no room for dessert!

Sunday was a great Deli lunch spread put out by Sis & Hubby, then a great old-fashioned BBQ of hamburgers and hot dogs, macaroni salad, potato salad and all the fix-in’s.   It was a great weekend in the country spent reminiscing and catching up with Cousin Charlie’s adventures and of course sharing ours!

Monday night was salad and pizza -just a quick relaxing meal at home.

Tuesday we trekked into The City to meet up with a visiting friend/family member.  (My ex-brother-in-law’s sister and her traveling companion. We went to Kellari Taverna for a very nice traditional Greek repast.   The dishes we enjoyed:

Appetizers: Scallops lightly seared, beets and truffle risotto;  Dolmades stuffed grape leaves with rice, herbs and pine nut; Spanakopita phyllo pies stuffed with spinach, leeks and feta.

Entrees: Lavraki grilled Mediterranean bass with steamed wild greens; Beef Tenderloin
Grilled, sauté spinach and oregano potatoes; Moussaka classic Greek casserole of lamb and yogurt béchamel;  Steak “Brizola” 16 oz Aged Angus New York strip served with hand cut fries.

Desserts: Galaktoboureko phyllo-crusted, vanilla custard cake; Sokolatina dark chocolate torte with Mastiha gelato.

It was a good meal and a great evening enjoyed the stories and catching up with June and meeting her friend Loretta.

Wednesday I went freezer diving and trumped-up some Jalapeno Spiced Chicken Sausage.  Sliced and sautéed then added to Toasted Orzotto with fresh corn, red pepper, onions, garlic and cilantro.  Made enough of this deliciousness for lunch leftovers!

Thursday we took a ride to Huntington to pick up some needed spices and vanilla for our pantry at Penzey’s. Love that store, never busy, always well stocked and I never leave with only whats on my list!  It was a gorgeous day and from there we went to Fairway Market in Plainview and bought tons of stuff we didn’t plan on either!  All good ingredients for the weekend fare.  Starting with last nights dinner: Lamb Burgers on Whole Wheat Challah rolls; sliced avocado and tomato;  And a crisp and fresh tasting jicama/carrot/cabbage/raw red beet slaw!  Yum Yum!

Pretty quiet weekend ahead, plan to laze around and maybe cook something new, Nana will be baking Banana Bread at some point, maybe some added chocolate chips this time???
